core process psychotherapy

Welcome to Core Process Psychotherapy

In Core Process Psychotherapy personality is not seen as fixed and permanent but is part of an expression which reflects our personal history in that which is patterned by circumstances and the conditioning in life.

Core Process

Core Process Psychotherapy is an exploration into how we are in the present experience and how this present experience is influenced by our past.

The aim is to recognise how we relate to and how we hold onto our past experience. Flexibility, integration and freedom emerge from awareness on how we hold onto our suffering. Suffering is part of the universal human condition, but personal suffering comes from how we relate to it and the world. Awareness brings a connection to openness, compassion and wisdom which is at the centre of the human experience.

The Ego

Whilst the work entails letting go of aspects of ego identity (such as I am what I am because of what I do or what I possess). The ego or self is considered the central organising principle of how we relate to the world. A healthy ego is important as a base from which to move in the world. Work may be needed to strengthen the ego, to build up self esteem and a sense of personal boundaries. Rather than seeking intellectual understanding of the ego Core Process Psychotherapy draws on awareness of processes involved of consciousness itself. The conscious mind is seen as a manifestation process of taking form which is expressed in the physical body, emotions and perception.

Sence of Self

At the essence of our sense of self is a core state which is open and boundless. It is the development of our personality structure and our attachment to it, which limits and restricts the potential for joy and fulfilment. You may need to work with repressed aspects of yourself and their objects so that you get to know what you are holding onto, without allowing yourself to know or to feel. The aim is not rise above or alter your experience but allowing and being present to it. You are helped to gain access to your inner process by focusing on what is arising and manifesting in that moment, this might be through the body, feelings, sensations, thinking or imagination.

About core process psychotherapy

Exploration

Core Process Psychotherapy is an exploration of how we are in our present experience and how this expresses the past conditioning and conditions of our lives. A depth awareness of what is happening in the present moment is used to explore our inner process.

Awareness

This awareness encompasses our energies, sensations, feelings, mental processes and their expressions in the body. The aim is not to alter the experience but to sense how we relate to it, so that it becomes possible to move with greater creativity and flexibility in our lives.

Understanding

Core Process is based on an understanding that within the conscious mind there is a deeper wisdom that moves naturally towards healing. Integration and freedom come from insight into the way in which we hold on to our suffering and from deeper connection with the openness, compassion and wisdom at the heart of human experience.
